It works just as well and I don't constantly loose my internet connection. With this new one I loose the connection for a few seconds on a regular basis.I cannot tell that the item connects any faster than the old 200 mbps version. I would not purchase this item if you already have the older one if you are expecting faster connection speeds or a more stable connection.  The manufacturer commented on this review( What's this?) Regards, NETGEAR Team 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful  Works as Advertised, but Not 500Mbps, This review is from: Netgear XAVB5101 Powerline Nano500 Set(XAVB5101) (Personal Computers) After a week using them, here's my 2 cents:So I got 6 of these things (3 sets of 2 for about $330 total): I planted them at various parts of the house. 2 TVs, 2 Tivos, and 1 computer are hooked up to them. transfer rate depends on proximity of each adapter to the one that's connected to the router. It's impossible to get the advertised 500Mbps unless the adapters are within about 5 feet of the router-connected adapter. There are certain areas of my house that can't even get a connection because it's too far away (6000sf house). Most of my connections are in the 50Mbps range, which is sufficient for most of my needs, however the farthest TV gets less than 5 Mbps, and has a hard time streaming 1080p video content from my PCs, and occasionally loses connection altogether. The instructions say not to plug into powerstrips, but 3 of my adpaters are plugged into powerstrips, and function just fine. It doesn't compete on bandwidth like... That's it -- plug in the two supplied Cat-5 cables and you're totally installed. I even tested it by plugging in a 5-port switch at the remote end. No problems -- I couldn't see any speed difference -- my laptop was connecting at 1.0Gbps (in network properties). No lag, no errors. I put a Wireless-G Access Point on at the remote end -- working great!! These units are really small - about the size of a small transformer -- plug them in and go! UPDATE: August 8, 2012 - 4 months later- and they're still running strong -- NO issues from these little units! My customer is VERY happy-- much better than the Linksys devices I installed a few years ago. |
